A. Year. Not really sure which expletive I want to use to describe 2017&#8230;perhaps all of them? As a disabled person living in this hostile political climate in the United States, I am determined more than ever to continue the work of the Disability Visibility Project\u00ae. Our stories, our culture, and our community are vital in resisting a society that erases and marginalizes us everyday in media, politics, language, and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This has been a big year for me personally. I took a risk and left my day job in February to focus full-time on the DVP. It\u2019s been an incredibly fulfilling and adventurous experience so far. Much of this is all thanks to you. I am grateful for the support and love from the people around me, online and offline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I want to give a special shout-out to the freelance audio producers who work on the podcast and oral histories: Geraldine Ah-Sue, Yosmay del Mazo, Cheryl Green and Sarika D. Mehta. Thank you to Heather Watkins and Denise DiNoto for their volunteer moderating support with my Facebook group.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below is a brief rundown of my activities this year in partnership with some amazing individuals and organizations. While there is anxiety about the future, I will remain open to what lies ahead and committed to sharing, amplifying and creating disability media and culture. Behind her is a wall full of colorful street art<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>DVP in 2017<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Started <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/DVP\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">crowdfunding on Patreon<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to sustain the work of the DVP.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Launched the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/disabilityvisibilityproject.com\/podcast-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disability Visibility podcast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in September 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Created a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/represent.com\/store\/dvp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new online store<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> featuring apparel with all proceeds supporting the DVP. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2014, over 140 oral histories recorded for the DVP, many of them archived at the Library of Congress. Gradually, all of these oral histories will be featured <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/disabilityvisibilityproject.com\/dvp-interviews\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on our website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
